Two Year Site Change / by Nick Burns

New Site

So, if you're a regular to my site I'm sure you've by now noticed the slightly different aesthetic... No but really, I changed the design of the site to better suit what I do, which is a lot. With professional and hobby work covering so many different areas, I sought to streamline it a little more, offering visitors and professionals a better experience browsing my work.

Major projects are listed under projects and available as splash screens on the home page of the site, and all other work is available in the archive page for those so inclined to see it.

I've also included a resume page, accessible by password only, so if you'd like to see it, I must be emailed and your credentials verified before access will be granted.

Let me know what you think of the design in a comment here!

Tenley Character Design

A random burst of character design had me create Tenley! I don't fully know her purpose, or personality, but I think she's pretty sick looking. Perhaps she'll find a place in a project in the future.

Hack the North

Earlier in September I participated in a competition in Waterloo, Ontario, called Hack the North. Long story short, they accept 1000 university students to participate in a 36 sponsored hackathon, where hackers, in teams or alone, build and develop a product which they must pitch to several major tech CEOs.

My team of four build a hardware/web app product that monitored vital conditions of a plant (basil to be specific), and deliver that information to the user through an app, with intentions to add thousands more plant variants to monitor, notifications, and mobile app function. Despite a few hiccups, an incredible lack of sleep, and some technical issues, we managed to complete it for the most part, and I'm pretty proud of our work despite not making it into the finals.

Overall the experience was a blast, and it was great to meet some awesome new people, learn about some cool technologies, and see the innovation fellow teams were putting into their own projects, if you have the chance, I recommend doing it!

For Tomorrow

As of the start of this month, I've began pre-production on a science fiction, 3D animated short film named For Tomorrow. Right now the details are secret but stay tuned for more on the production process and teasers for the short! This will be my first fully developed 3D animation, and I am excited beyond belief about it!

Patreon

Since I've decided to keep a tighter schedule on content, I decided as well to open up a Patreon! It's a chance to get yourself heard for new ideas, and help me! Please pop over and at least have a look, donating would mean a lot to me but don't feel obligated at all of course.

Laminar Ltd

Over at SkyPyre things are a cookin', and we have an exciting new game coming along side Halen, it's a smaller project but a goofy fun one I think people could have a blast with. Stay tuned for more on that, and check out our website!
